We are delighted to announce Borealis, an international swordsmanship event hosted by Les Maîtres d’Armes in Ottawa, Canada on the weekend of June 15-16, 2013.
This gathering will be the first of its kind in the region, and the goal is to celebrate the Historical European Martial Arts by holding a twofold event. Borealis will feature a full day of classes replete with renowned instructors from the United States and Canada as well as the Pas du Solstice, a day of fighting within the lists loosely done in the style of a passage of arms, where challenges with different weapons are issued and accepted by fighters who will be separated into various historical “factions.” Also featured will be an invitational armoured feat of arms where the art of historical combat will be represented in its most resplendent form.
Due to the limited number of spaces, registration will begin by invitation, and be opened up to the general public as we get responses from the various groups in the region. If you’d like an invite, and we’ve forgotten you, by all means let us know at firstname.lastname@example.org
The event price of $135 for early birds ($155 after April 15th) includes the full day of classes, which will be divided into two tracks to better accommodate the number of people, and admission to the Pas du Solstice, the name given to the feat of arms to be held on the Sunday as well as an event T-shirt. Inexpensive meals will be available to participants, as prepared by the on-site Sugar Shack. Please indicate if you will be partaking of this service on the registration form so we can inform the Sugar Shack as to how many mouths for which they must prepare food. Saturday evening will feature a group outing to local restaurant, where the group can meet, relax and get to better know one another.
Accommodations will be provided by the Welcome Inns, 1220 Michael Street. A group rate of $95 per night has been arranged, provided you reserve your room before May 15th. Please see Accomodations for more information.
